WB-funded project’s portfolio approved
VGP - PM Nguyen Tan Dung has approved the portfolio of a technical support project on the Viet Nam Climate Innovation Center (VCIC) sponsored by the World Bank.
The Ministry of Science and Technology was assigned to manage the project.
The project aims to support medium and small-sized businesses to develop technological solutions and enhance business activities in green growth through establishing and operating the center.
The project comprises three components, including establishment and operation of the VCIC and support for innovation policy development to respond to climate change; services for business and technology to respond to climate change; and developing a website, database and services to support businesses.
The project will be implemented from August 2015 to July 2019 with the total capital of US$4.18 million, including US$3.8 million in official development assistance from WB’s nonrefundable fund and US$380,000 of Viet Nam’s corresponding capital.
Viet Nam, with rising sea levels, fluctuating rainfall, and destructive typhoons, is among the countries most vulnerable to the effects of climate change.
Local climate technology innovations and solutions would enable Viet Nam to adapt to climate change, mitigate emissions, meet energy needs, boost productivity, maintain competitiveness, and minimize dependence on fossil fuel imports./.
